Migration 09:40
...As time leaps over metal My body takes shape the way planets take shape from spinning dust in the solar nebula...

about

This collaboration was sparked by a one minute fragment of electronic music by Daniel Dewar, which he extended for this project. It explores microscopic detail, repeated and shifting across the track's time. The repeated progressions are played live, rather than recorded and looped. Via programming grain samplers in Reatkor and Max MSP, shifts in time cause digital scratches in the recording. These are the elements responded to in the narrative poem; the scratches sounding like steel guitar strings, harshly played and fading off, consuming themselves, the way being stuck eats away at our hearts. ‘Like a vase,’ writes the poet Sarah Manguso, ‘a heart breaks once. After that, it just yields to its flaws’.
